PRINT command Not Working For Database Client

Hello,

The PRINT command works fine on Query Analyzer.
However, when I used it with other Database Client,
eg: Aqua Data Studio, nothing got printed out.

Is there a way to make it work?

Thanks in advance.ehchn1@.hotmail.com (James) wrote in message news:<46fb4b22.0405272205.4e2e0bd4@.posting.google.com>...

I don't know anything about Aqua Data Studio, but the client has to
handle the PRINT output correctly - see "Using PRINT" in Books Online
for more details. The message is returned as an error, so perhaps Aqua
is treating it as an error, and doing something else with it. But you
should probably ask whoever makes the product.

Just like Simon, I have never heard of Aqua Data Studio before, but
a quick search on the net indicates that this is some of sort of
multi-platform Query Analyzer. If that sort of tool does not handle
PRINT correctly, this is a big defeciency, and you should raise an
issue with the vendor.

It could be, however, that the problem is in the JDBC driver, so trying
another driver could be worth a try. Then again, Aquafold says on
http://www.aquafold.com/docs-jdbcdrivers.html: "Microsoft SQL Server JDBC
Drivers - The SQL Server JDBC drivers included with ADS work across all
versions of SQL Server. There is no need to change or update this driver."

So you should probably talk to the vendor in this case too.

If the product uses JDBC, it is likely that the PRINT output will
be available to the JDBC driver via the Connection and Statement
getWarnings() call. You may get quicker turnarouond from the product
vendor if you include this fact.

Print button on toolbar

I have Visual Studio 2005 Standard where I am building a web app. In this
web app I have a Report Viewer and the print button on the toolbar is set to
true, however when I run the app it is not there.
Is this a bug?Not if you are using it in Local Mode. Print is not supported in this mode.

You are probably printing the report as a LocalReport which does not have a print button the ServerReport does though

principal to proxy problem

I can successfully execute my package via Business Studio but when I schedule it in SQL Agent I get the error message, 'could not get proxy data for proxy id = 2.' I am trying to execute the scheduled job with that proxy (call it abcd_proxy) because I have a logon id (call it abcd) with access to a specific network drive folder, which holds a required source flat file. The abcd logon is defined as a sysadmin account. I am unable to see that the abcd logon id is an added principal within the abcd_proxy, which I think is because the abcd logon principal has a sysadmin role. My proxy id = 2 definition looks to be defined the same way that my first proxy id was.

Does anyone have an idea about what the message means and how I can fix it?

I had to create a proxy recently to have an SSIS package write a file to a network folder. I am by no means an expert on the subject, but here is what I had to do.

I had to first create a windows account with the right credentials. I then created a credential, a proxy for the credential, and of course set the "Run As" parameter for the step to the proxy. I made sure that the new account was added as a sysadmin in SQL Server, added the account to the "Users" group on the server, as well as to the Logon as batch security policy. When I still had problems with the package being able to read a file it was related to the credentials of the account, which I had the network admin fix. Everything now runs fine.

I apologize if I have stated the obvious to you, but just wanted to share with you all the steps I had to take to perform a task very similar to what you are trying to do. Of course, I had to also use an "absolute" network path and not a mapped drive letter.

Hope this helps.

primary key/foreign key relationship

I'm using MS SQL Server Studio Express 9.0. When selecting SQL Server Compact Edition, I'm able to create tables and primary keys with no problem. But how do I create a relationship with another table (foreign key)?

Bob K.

There is not designer support for doing this with SQL CE, so you must use:

Code Snippet

ALTER TABLE Orders ADD FK_Customer_Order FOREIGN KEY (CustomerId) REFERENCES Customers(CustomerId)

Designer support for this is promised for the next version of SQL CE (3.5) - in the "Orcas" timeframe.

|||thanks Eric.
|||Eric,

is there a way to enter the above sql statement from with Studio Express?
|||Connect to the SDF file, and select File, New, New query, type the text in the query editor and press F5 to execute...|||once again, thank you.
|||uhhh... and the beat goes on...

i've entered the following sql statement:

ALTER TABLE Camera ADD FK_Format_Camera FOREIGN KEY (FormatID) REFERENCES Format(FormatID)

and received the following error:
Major Error 0x80040E14, Minor Error 25501
> ALTER TABLE Camera ADD FK_Format_Camera FOREIGN KEY (FormatID) REFERENCES Format(FormatID)
There was an error parsing the query. [ Token line number = 1,Token line offset = 41,Token in error = FOREIGN ]

i've attached a link that shows the tables and columns i'm attempting to update. i just can't see what i'm doing wrong. could someone help?

Sorry, the correct syntax is (using the sample Northwind.sdf):

Code Snippet

ALTER TABLE Orders ADD CONSTRAINT Reference FOREIGN KEY ([Customer ID]) REFERENCES Customers ([Customer ID])

|||perfect! thanks eric.

Preview pane not showing data

I have a problem within the Report Designer in Visual Studio .NET. I a new
report, I define a dataset that returns data via a SQL query fine. I design
the report without issues, but when I try to preview the report, no data is
displayed.
This error seems to have occured after applying reporting services SP1 to my
machine. No errors are reported, and nothing appears in the event log.
Any ideas as to how I can correct this problem out there?
Thanks in advance.
MattIs there an .rdl.data file in the same directory as your .rdl file? If so, delete it and try again.
Also, does hitting the Refresh button in the preview pane have any effect?

I tried deleting them, but got the same results. The refresh button did not
help either.
In a moment of frustration I uninstalled reporting services; performed a
repair install on VS .Net, reinstalled Reporting services; applied the
service pack and started over again. Everything seems to be working now.

Preview a Report in Design Mode (VS 2005)

I am working with SQL Server Reporting Services and Visual Studio .Net 2005 Beta 2. In VS 2003 you could preview a report in design mode by clicking on the preview tab. There is no such tab in 2005 Beta 2. Does anyone know how to preview a report in design mode? Thanks. When you are using the Report Controls in local mode (embedded), there is no preview since your application is responsible for creating the data set to bind into the control. You will need to execute your application to preview.

Designer preview is only present in report server mode.
